For the first competition of the season, Velocity journeyed to Meapa Gymnastics Club in Gravesend for an invitational which would test their brand new competition routines. The weekend started off with our Novice girls hitting the mat to show their skills. All of the girls performed their routines fantastically, and for many this was their very first competition – a daunting prospect when some were only 7 years old! We had some very good results in Novice with Elisa, Bryony and Anya all placing 6th, 4th and 3rd respectively. Our success continued with the intermediate girls later in the afternoon. With incredible poise and accuracy, all of the girls placed within their categories with the following results: Rebecca – Silver, Luci – Bronze, Isla – 4th, Izzy and Jess – 5th, and Maisie – 6th.

Following on from this successful Saturday, it was the turn of our Advanced and Bronze entries. Ruby competed within the 11-12 age category, with Nicole competing 13-17. Both of the girls performed amazing floor routines and powerful vaults, demonstrating their hard work over the past few months. Ruby came away with the highest vault score within her category, and Nicole gained the highest floor score in her category as well as a bronze medal for her efforts. In the last round of the day for Velocity, Leah represented the club in a tightly fought battle within the bronze category. After some incredible vaulting from Pegasus, the pressure was on; Leah rose to the challenge, however, to gain not only the highest vault score within the entire Bronze category, but the highest floor score within her age group to take home the gold for the club!

An incredible weekend’s work for the girls, achieving an incredible 11 placings out of the 15 girls that were there. We learnt some valuable lessons as a squad, and hope these results can be equalled or even bettered at the competitions this year. A huge well done to all of the girls that competed – bring on the Kents!
